While I Was Away, My Husband Transformed Our Tiny Kitchen—What I Came Home To Left Me Speechless!

I couldn’t believe my eyes when I came back home and saw THIS! 😲✨
While I was away visiting my mother-in-law, my husband completely transformed our tiny 5-square-meter kitchen beyond recognition! 👨‍🔧🏡

We had both grown so tired of our old, ugly, and worn-out kitchen, but I never expected him to take such a bold step and give it a full makeover while I was gone. When I walked through the door and saw the result, I was honestly speechless.

The kitchen had been in such poor condition before the renovation that my husband decided to document the entire process from beginning to end — and once people saw the before-and-after photos, they quickly started going viral.

You can see the full transformation in this article below 👇

The first step was to clear out everything unnecessary, stripping the kitchen down to its essentials. To keep things functional during the renovation, he left the sink and gas stove in place, making sure meals could still be prepared along the way. Fortunately, the plastic window had already been installed, giving him a small advantage before the real work began.

Since my husband works as a plumber, he took the opportunity to also upgrade the heating pipes and radiators throughout the apartment while the renovation was already underway. It was a smart decision, since it meant we wouldn’t have to tear everything apart again later just to make those improvements.

Thanks to his experience and access to professional tools, we were able to save a significant amount of money, only needing to cover the cost of materials rather than paying for labor as well.

One challenge was the placement of the ventilation. The original opening was too low, so my husband created a new outlet near the ceiling. After installing stretch ceilings, he spent quite some time ensuring the hood’s ventilation outlet was flush with the surface for a clean finish.

The gas meter was smartly concealed behind the refrigerator, keeping it out of sight while still leaving it easy to access when needed. In another practical improvement, the area where there had once been a door leading to the bathroom was closed off with a plasterboard wall, creating a smooth, even surface.

This not only improved the overall appearance of the kitchen but also made the tiling process much simpler, cleaner, and more cost-effective.

Since green is my favorite color, my husband decided to build the kitchen around a fresh and vibrant green color scheme — and it turned out beautifully. When the sunlight pours through the window, the whole space feels bright, cheerful, and incredibly inviting.

Instead of using traditional curtains, he chose blinds, which gave the kitchen a cleaner and more modern look while also keeping the windowsill free for extra storage, plants, or decorative touches.

To ensure safety, he insulated the gas pipe with a leftover piece of heat-resistant material, typically used for hot water pipes. Although not strictly necessary, it’s an extra precaution to protect the pipe in case the refrigerator shifts or gets too warm.

He also added valves to the radiator, allowing it to be quickly shut off in case of an emergency.

The microwave, which had originally been sitting on the windowsill, was later moved onto a wall-mounted bracket to make the kitchen both safer and more practical. Its height was carefully planned so it would remain easy to reach without getting in the way or becoming a hazard when sitting at the table.

The kitchen set itself cost around $750, which even included free measurements and assembly — a great value for such a dramatic transformation. And despite the kitchen’s very compact size, every inch of space was used wisely.

Even the narrowest area between the sink and stove is only about 5 centimeters, yet thanks to the thoughtful layout, the kitchen still manages to feel organized, functional, and surprisingly comfortable rather than cramped.

My husband installed custom LED lighting for the backsplash, using a roll of LED tape and a diffuser. He secured it with double-sided tape, connected the wires, and added a switch discreetly placed between the hood and the gas meter. This homemade lighting solution adds a warm glow and was surprisingly affordable.

The stretch ceiling was a smart finishing touch, neatly hiding the pipes that run along the perimeter of the room. To make the installation look as clean and seamless as possible, those pipes were first relocated higher up, allowing the ceiling to sit neatly in place without disrupting the overall design.

There are also plans to make the space even more practical in the future by adding a hanging rail with hooks and small shelves, creating convenient storage for utensils and everyday kitchen essentials.

By the time my husband finished, our once cluttered, outdated, and uninspiring kitchen had been completely transformed into a bright, functional, and stylish space. It no longer felt like a cramped little room — it felt fresh, organized, and full of life.

Through his hard work, creativity, and resourcefulness, he managed to turn our tiny kitchen into a comfortable and modern cooking area that somehow feels far more spacious than it actually is.
