MOBU: Setting a New Standard for Sustainable Container Homes

In a time when sustainable living and affordable housing are more important than ever, MOBU Enterprises stands out as a powerful force for change.

Founded by Jessica Lewis and Ibrahim Smith, this Black-owned company is reshaping the construction landscape by converting steel shipping containers into eco-friendly, disaster-resistant homes designed for modern living.

Origins Rooted in Purpose

MOBU Enterprises was born from a deep desire to support communities devastated by natural disasters. After witnessing how many neighborhoods struggled to rebuild, Jessica and Ibrahim set out to create a solution that was durable, sustainable, and fast to deploy.

Shipping containers—renowned for their strength and longevity—became the perfect foundation. As Jessica explained, “We saw communities unable to recover. We knew containers could be transformed into something that had less impact on the earth while offering real, lasting solutions.”

A Sustainable and Innovative Approach

What sets MOBU apart is its unwavering commitment to green construction. By repurposing containers once used for global shipping, the company gives new life to industrial materials that would otherwise go to waste.

These containers are transformed into sleek, comfortable homes with fully customized interiors. Projects typically take just four to 12 weeks to complete—much faster than traditional construction.

End-to-End Services and Rapid Delivery

With a skilled team of contractors, engineers, and designers, MOBU serves as a true one-stop shop. This integrated structure allows them to deliver finished projects in less than 90 days, making their homes ideal for both planned builds and emergency housing needs.

Strategic Partnership for Greater Impact

To elevate its mission, MOBU Enterprises partnered with An Officer and Gentlewoman, LLC (AOAGWLLC)—a Veteran-owned PR and brand management firm led by decorated U.S. Army veteran Raquel Riley Thomas.

AOAGWLLC brings more than 30 years of media and entertainment expertise, aligning perfectly with MOBU’s community-centered approach.

Jessica Lewis praised the partnership, noting AOAGWLLC’s exceptional professionalism and strong industry presence. Raquel echoed the sentiment: “We’re proud to support MOBU, a company that blends innovation with purpose. Together, we’re building a narrative rooted in excellence and community uplift.”

Empowering Communities Through Sustainability

MOBU’s mission extends beyond construction. Their homes incorporate eco-friendly upgrades such as solar power, green roofs, and energy-efficient insulation—solutions that reduce environmental impact while lowering long-term living costs.

By focusing on disaster-resilience and using repurposed materials, MOBU simultaneously addresses housing insecurity and promotes environmental responsibility.

Breaking Barriers in a Challenging Industry

Entering the green construction sector was not easy, especially for Jessica and Ibrahim as African-American innovators. Despite skepticism and resistance, they leveraged more than 15 years of combined experience in construction project management to prove their capabilities and vision.

Their perseverance has positioned MOBU Enterprises as a rising leader in sustainable modular housing.

Looking Toward the Future

As they continue to grow, Jessica and Ibrahim remain committed to their core mission: delivering affordable, resilient, and environmentally conscious homes. Through creative design, community engagement, and strategic partnerships, MOBU is poised to make a lasting mark on the housing industry—and on the lives of families in need.
