Tiny House

This Couple Transformed an Old Bus Into a Beautiful Home on Wheels

This impressive bus conversion offers an inspiring gateway to a genuinely off-the-grid lifestyle. While many people daydream about disconnecting from the chaos and embracing total freedom, the fantasy often fades as reality sets in. Countless individuals hope to secure a remote job that allows them to work and explore the world simultaneously, yet only a fortunate few can proudly say they’ve turned that dream into their everyday life.

After years of envisioning a life spent exploring the open road, Robbie and Priscilla finally stepped away from the monotony of their daily routine. Driven by a shared passion for discovering new destinations, tasting local cuisines, and immersing themselves in diverse cultures, they made a bold and life-changing decision. They purchased a weathered 1998 Thomas school bus, already imagining it as both their home and faithful travel companion for the years ahead.

But their dream extended far beyond simply owning a vehicle for adventure—they wanted to transform it into a warm and welcoming home on wheels. A typical RV or campervan couldn’t capture the heart of their vision. Inspired by minimalist living and determined to craft something truly their own, they embraced the ambitious challenge of converting the old bus into a compact yet remarkably comfortable dwelling.

Like any ambitious project, their journey came with its share of setbacks—and on two separate occasions, they came close to giving up entirely. The biggest challenge they encountered was a persistent issue with leaking windows.

Despite countless attempts to clean, repair, and reseal them, the leaks kept returning. What seemed like a simple fix quickly became a major problem for their tiny home on wheels, leaving them frustrated and disheartened. Eventually, feeling defeated, they made the difficult decision to list the gutted bus on Craigslist, convinced that their dream might be slipping out of reach.

Fortunately, they had a change of heart. Instead of giving up, they decided to remove the listing and tackle the problem head-on. Committing to a more costly but reliable solution, they chose to replace every single window. The decision pushed their budget far beyond what they had planned so early in the build, but the brand-new, leak-free windows instantly lifted their spirits. With renewed confidence and a fresh start, their dream home on wheels finally felt possible again.

Before beginning their bus conversion, Robbie and Priscilla traveled whenever they could—but the hardest part of every adventure was leaving their beloved pets behind. Missing them deeply, they were determined to make their new home on wheels a place where their furry companion, Mr. Beebles, could travel comfortably alongside them.

After a year and a half of dedication and hard work, they finally brought their dream tiny home to life. As a charming final touch, they installed a real house door to give the space a warm, welcoming feel. With the build complete and Mr. Beebles happily settled in, they were truly ready to embrace their off-the-grid lifestyle—this time with their loyal feline friend by their side.

Their carefully crafted mobile home comes fully equipped for life on the road, featuring a toilet, hot water, air conditioning, heating, and even a washer and dryer. With every essential at their fingertips, Robbie and Priscilla are perfectly prepared to embrace the adventures and challenges of a nomadic lifestyle with ease.

Thanks to their skill in running their business entirely online, needing only a dependable internet connection, they can work from virtually anywhere. After leaving their Florida home last year, they embarked on an extraordinary journey, exploring an astonishing 137 cities in just 10 months.

As their journey unfolds, Robbie and Priscilla have realized that life on the road holds far more than they ever imagined. Every city offers new experiences, meaningful connections, and breathtaking landscapes that inspire and energize them. Their travels have not only transformed their daily routines but also strengthened their appreciation for simplicity, freedom, and the joy of embracing a life shaped by adventure rather than convention.
